Must Do - A Perfect Day Trip

My wife and I did the Angkor Wat day tour with Sophoan Rath on June 30, 2016. Overall, it was a great tour and the perfect day trip to Angkor Wat from Bangkok.

First, Sophoan was excellent all-around. Once you contact him to inquire of and/or book the tour, Sophoan provides a lot of detailed information regarding the tour. You'll need to make a $100 deposit via Western Union or MoneyGram (I chose Western Union, which requires a small fee). Once Sophoan receives the funds in Cambodia, he sends you pictures of the receipt and a confirmation of the tour. Closer to the date of the tour, Sophoan confirms your hotel and answers any questions you may have. During the actual tour, he is extremely knowledgeable and goes well out his way to make sure you enjoy your experience (more on this below).

On the day of our tour, we were picked up by a driver at 3am (yes, very early) from our hotel in Bangkok. The driver was waiting for us, so obviously on time. The drive to the Thailand-Cambodia (Poipet) border was approx. 3.5 hours, and the trip was in a large van (both my wife and I were able to lay down in our separate rows to get some zzz's). Upon arrival at the Poipet border, we were met and welcomed by an English speaking guide (not Sophoan). After meeting the guide, you'll take a 5-10 minute walk to the actual border. IMPORTANT: Note that you will have to leave the guide with your passport for 10-15min (we were terrified and caused delays trying to sort this out, but it all turned out fine and the guide returned with our passports and visas). If you don’t have a passport-sized photo for the visa, you just pay a small fee. After crossing the border, it's another 2 hour drive in a comfortable car with a new driver. This car and driver accompanied us the rest of the day and made the tour very convenient. Upon arrival in Siem Reap, we picked up (and met) Sophoan and drove for a few minutes to Angkor Wat.

The next several hours were spent touring Angkor Wat, the Great City of Angkor Thom, the South Gate, the Bayon Temple (trees one), the Terrace of the Elephants, the Terrace of the Leper King, the Taprohm Ruins (Tomb Raider temple with trees), and Small Circuit. Sophoan was outstanding - he knew a ton, answered all our questions, and took a ton of pictures for us. When it started to rain, Sophoan had umbrellas for us, and he always seemed to be focusing on what we wanted. The car/driver mentioned earlier was always waiting for us once we finished touring a specific location, which made the tour very convenient.

We ate a late lunch before the drive back to Bangkok, so bring some USD (ours was approximately $20). Just another example to show how Sophoan goes well out of his way to make sure you enjoy the tour, he road back with us to the border since we were terrified to leave our passports at the border earlier in the morning (see above). He was truly the perfect guide.

Angkor Wat was incredible, and if you're looking for a guide or the perfect day trip, this is the one. Thanks Sophoan!

Exceptional! !!!

This is my first time doing a review on Trip Adviser, and would not normally do a review. We feel we must. The Amazing service that Mr. Rath and the rest of the team at Angkor Wat Services provided was outstanding! We booked a tour for June 5th, and we're picked up at our hotel in Bangkok, and driven to the Cambodian border, handed off to driver on Cambodian side. Our driver Karn was fantastic! Never once did our frequent requests to stop disturb. The knowledge Sophoan shared with us was truly stellar! He informed and educated us, while enthusiastically making it fun. We're pretty well traveled, and have used guides before, but never have we had the pleasure of such service! Our driver in Cambodia was Disith Seng. He was beyond courteous! Always opening the doors for us, and ready with an ice cold water!

We will return to Siem Reap, and bring friends. And we will most definitely use Angkor Wat Services, and the amazing Mr. Rath again! Dan & Duane

Exceptional guide

Sophoan Rath organized our one day trip from Bangkok to Angkor Wat. It was excellent in every way. Sophoan is a pleasant person who will adjust to your style and speed of touring the ruins. He is very knowledgeable, he will provide you with all the information you need. Crossing from Thailand to Cambodia is somewhat unusual (you will have to give up your passport for a while), but it works great. I enthusiastically recommend Sophoan as your guide. You will not be disappointed.

Must do!!

This was such a great experience - from getting picked up at our hotel in Bangkok, to easily getting across the Cambodian border, to meeting Sophoan and going on the tour - I highly recommend booking a tour with Sophoan. Everything was carefully planned out and great care was taken to ensure we had a great experience. Sophoan was such a friendly tour guide and he was very knowledgeable about everything we saw. I am so glad we did this tour and highly recommend it to anyone wanting to experience all Siem Reap has to offer.

Superb 1-day tour of historically significant site.

Found Angkor Wat Services online ... appreciated immediate, courteous and accommodating response by Sophoan Rath (Managing Director and head tour guide). Especially appreciated flexibility in modifyingly itinerary at the last moment (scheduling error on my part). Assigned Sim Sopheaktra as my personal tour guide ... couldn't have been more pleased at his wealth of historical, georgraphical and overall knowledge of Angkor Wat, as well as Cambodia in general. Very pleasant and patient to work with. Very accommodating to my wishes. Highly recommend him to anyone. And needless to say Angkor Wat and surroundings couldn't have been more impressive ... as amazing and breathtaking as expected. Definitely a must see and experience!

Highly recommended - Daily Tour

We visited Angkor Wat on a daily tour. We got picked up from Bangkok and changed vehicle at Poipet - the border with Cambodia. We met Mr Sophoan in Angkor Wat where our tour began, wont bore you with the itinerary details as you can read from other reviewers. The experience was truly amazing and Mr Sophoan's knowledge contributed on getting an understanding of the civilisation and the whole temple complex. We would highly recommend Mr Sophoan and the whole operation. Very well organised, very pleasant and above all wonderful people. Thank you so so much!

Excellent Service

We just had three days in Siem Reap. Mr. Sophoan is a very talented, well spoken English tour specialist . In a foreign country, you can rely on him to show you around . We felt secured, safe, relax and very accommodated . It was a private tour, in the hot noon, when we felt too much sun heat, he took us back to the hotel, and picked us again two hour late. We highly recommend him as your tour guide. Also compare to tuktuk, air conditioned car is the much better choice. Thank you Mr.Phoan.

Excellent tour

So we were suppose to spend most of our time in Cambodia but due to multiple flight cancellations and delays around the world we ended up in Bangkok. We didn't want to miss out on Angkor Wat though. We googled day trips to Angkor Wat from Bangkok and this company popped up. We emailed them and they promptly responded within an hour. We sent over part of the cost of the trip via Western Union and they arranged our tour for the next day.

A van and driver (and just the 2 of us) headed out towards Poipet at the Cambodian/Thai border at 3am. We arrived a little before sunrise and met a man who escorted us across the border. I have to be honest, he did ask for our passports at one point. We hesitated (I'm type A) but gave it to him. We were then sent to a car with a driver. About 20 minutes later our passport holder man came back with our passports stamped and ready to go. It was interesting but it worked. We already had evisas so it made the process quicker. Heads up though, if you have an Evisa, bring 2 copies per person as they take it upon entry and require another one upon exit.

We then rode to Siem Reap and met our awesome guide, Sophoan Rath. We ate breakfast outside the main Angkor Wat temple the explored for 7-8 hours. He was very knowledgable, friendly and eager to please. He had plenty of water in the airconditioned car for us whenever we needed it. Bring sunscreen and a hat. It's very hot there. He took great pictures of us and told us where to take good pictures. The lunch spot had great food. The Angkor beer is awesome.

At the end of the tour we really wanted to do some shopping before we left so he took us to a little shop where land mining victims made art and wooden trinkets. All proceeds go to help these victims. Many of these people were there and we watched them carve and paint beautiful creations. It was huge and awesome. We bought several items.

We had so much fun and would gladly do it again. We definitely recommend this company for your Angkor Wat tour needs. They were very personal and seemed to truly care. The whole process was obviously a well oiled machine and went off without a hitch. Bring US cash and credit cards seemed to be widely accepted. Can't wait to visit again!

Great tour experience at amazing Angkor

My friend and I traveled from Bangkok to Cambodia to do a tour of the Angkor Archeological Park. We found Angkor Wat Services through Tripadvisor and were not disappointed. Sophoan arranged transportation by car from Bangkok to Siem Reap and a customized 1.5 day tour. The guide and Sophoan worked with us to make sure we got to see everything we wanted even though the time was short. The tour itself was great, the tour guide extremely knowledgable and enjoyable to talk to. The driver for the tour was equally good and very friendly. Sophoan came to meet us at our hotel to check and make sure we were satisfied and that everything was going smoothly. I cannot say enough good things about how efficient, flexible and kind he was. Thank you for making our experience there truly enjoyable and enlightening.
