Rath Sophoan was the organizer and tour guide for a two-day visit my daughter, neice and I took to Cambodia in early April 2013. He was of stallar quality in all aspects and is an immense asset to his organization and to the country of Cambodia.

Responsiveness: Always clear, pricise and prompt in email contacts prior to the trip.

Organization: Always negotiated all obstacles to make our stay run smoothly. This included initial pickup and final dropoff in Bangkok that involved border handoff and pasport control issues.

Politeness and consideration: Was always a gem to deal with and treated us wonderfully in every way. He anticipated food, rest and bathroom needs, frequently offered to take group photos of us at good photo spots and drove us safely and expeditiously multiple times through challenging traffic.

Knowledge: He is a treasure trove of historical and cultural information about Cambodia. As a history person I could not have been more pleased.

Command of English: Superb to the point that we enjoyed sharing logic and mathematical puzzles together. He is also possessed of a wonderful sense of intellect, inquisitiveness and good humor. He was a delight ot spend time with.

In over 50 years of travel including over 100 travel guides he stands out as the best I have ever had.

Fantastic experience with Sophoan Rath

From the very first contact with Sophoan, he was responsive, informative, and helpful. We came overland from Bangkok with a complicated series of arrangements, and he smoothly negotiated all the steps. I felt like we were in very capable hands, and Sophoan was just as lovely in person as he was in his emails. His knowledge of Cambodian history and culture is vast, his command of English superb, his presence an absolute delight. When we asked about seeing Angkor Wat at sunrise, he immediately offered to make it happen even though it wasn't on the tour itinerary. He seemed to anticipate our every need effortlessly. In every single way he exceeded my expectations. I could not recommend him more highly!!

Siem Reap with Sophoan Rath - highly recommended

I was planning for a trip with friends to visit Siem Reap & Angkor Wat (Mar 26-28, 2013), and a friend recommended Sophoan as a tour guide. It turned out to be an excellent recommendation. Poan was very proactive and gave prompt replies to the numerous queries I had prior to the trip, and he recommended an itinerary which allowed us to see the most of Siem Reap and Angkor Wat within the very short period of 2 days. He even had comfortable transport arranged to bring us from Phnom Penh airport to Siem Reap. Throughout our short holiday there, we were very impressed with his vast knowledge on the history of Angkor Wat and Cambodian culture, and our needs were very well taken care of by him and the driver (sadly did not get to know his name). In the blistering hot weather, they made sure we did not have to worry about having no ice cold water, getting to the various landmarks in the really huge Angkor Wat complex or having to think about where to settle our daily meals. As a tour guide, he has exceeded our expectations; any requests to changes in the itinerary were prompty accomodated and we had truly enjoyed our time in Siem Reap. I look forward to visiting Cambodia again, and would very much like to have Poan as my Cambodian tour guide again.

Great tour of Angkor Wat temples

We booked a day tour of the Angkor Wat area with Sophoan having read the reviews on Trip Advisor and were not disappointed. We didn't have much time in Siem Reap but the tour packed a lot into the day we had available. Sophoan is incredibly knowledgeable and was willing to answer all of the questions we asked, regardless of how silly they were. He was willing to share his personal experiences of living in Cambodia during some of the darker periods of its history which was very moving.

We appreciated the structuring of the tour in such a way as to avoid the big tour parties which really enhanced our experience of the temples. Sophoan pointed out all of the best vantage points to take photos from, including where to stand to appear to be nose to nose with the Buddha statue. Overall we just had so much fun on the tour with Sophoan and really appreciated his sense of humour. The temples themselves were incredibly beautiful and diverse and the day was definitely one of the highlights of our holiday.

Sophoan also arranged our transfer from Siem Reap to Ko Chang in Thailand which we were very happy we had arranged in advance as the Thai border crossing is pretty confusing and you need to change vehicles. We were met by a guide where our driver dropped us at the border who walked us across the border and ensured we knew what we were doing. The Thai leg of the journey was straight forward and we appreciated the driver's help getting us to the ferry.

Angkor Wat with Sophoan Rath

Sophoan is a gem. If you, like me were nervous about arranging a trip half way around the world with someone you never met, no need to worry here. Mr Rath planned the trip thoroughly, provided an excellent hotel, was timely, informative and flexible. We were honored to have Sophoan and his lovely wife join us for a dinner and a show on our last night in Siem Reap. More than a guide, Mr Rath is a thoughful and enjoyable person. Jim and Joan.

Sophoan Rath is great!

We had an absolutely amazing honeymoon visiting Angkor Wat and our time in Siem Reap thanks to our amazing tour guide Sophoan Rath. He is an absolute must and the site would not have been as interesting without him! He made our experience truly special and incredible. I hope that we can make it back to Cambodia soon as it has truly stolen my heart!

Poan is the perfect guide.

My first trip to Cambodia was a few years ago and toured around the Siem Reap area and Poan was an amazing guide, the best I've ever had. He is genuinely friendly and is very professional. I've toured other areas of Cambodia on subsequent trips and again Poan made all the arrangements and we had a great time. He knowledge is so complete and adds many insights to the trip by explaining about Khmer history and culture.

I've had the opportunity to travel to many countries and had many guides throughout my years of traveling. Poan is the best there is! Richard C.

Mr Sophoan Rath - Excellent tour guide - Angkor Wat

Hi all! I visited Siem Reap with my family over Christmas and stayed there 3 nights. We were truly blessed to have this amazing, knowledgeable, friendly and patient person around us. There was one simple difference between him and all other guides I had around the world...He was honest. No story or BS teller.

If you want a genuine tour, then call him up. Ask for the less crowded temple tour, 100km from the city.

Excellent tour guide - outdid all expectations

Visited Siem Reap to cover the area over three days. Everything was organized online, and I went into not knowing whether it was going to be anything like the it seemed on paper. I must say that the entire experience was even better than expected. Sophoan had organized everything to perfection. The vehicles were always on time, Sophoan, the other guides, and the drivers were very knowledgable and polite. We had a very pleasant and memorable stay. If anyone is travelling to see the wonderful Angkor ruins and Siem Reap, I strongly recommend that you contact Sophoan as you will not be disappointed. Shiv.

Touring Siem Reap with Sophoan - Wonderful!

I am not even sure where to begin with this long overdue review... My husband and I traveled to Siem Reap for two short days of sightseeing in December 2012. We could not have asked for a better tour guide than Sophoan. From our arrival at Siem Reap airport late in the evening, to our very early departure on Jan.1st (what a way to welcome in the new year, huh?), Sophoan made everything flow smoothly and stress-free for us. His knowledge of the area and his country's history is impressive. My husband likes to ask a lot of questions...mostly about how old things are and when certain events took place, and Sophoan knew it all! As someone else mention, he is a special person. I did not feel like he was just my guide, taking me to places because he had to; I felt like he was an old friend sharing his city with me. Not everyone has the ability to make you feel that way. After our time in Siem Reap we traveled to Vietnam, and while we encounter some great guides there, none of them were quite like Sophoan. I have already recommend him to one friend planning to travel to Cambodia, and I will recommend him to anyone else I know of who plans to travel there. Perfect holiday for my family

We had an enjoyable time during Siem Reap temple complex tour with Mr. Sophoan Rath on day 1 and part of day 2 and his teammate for part of day 2. Mr. Sophoan was very kind and patient, in addition to being knowledgeable about the Angkor complex. He had paid attention to detail on every aspect of our entire trip from Bangkok to Siem Reap and back to Bangkok the next day. It was the best 24 hours spent during our vacation. We got to see the sunset and sunrise. My kids(8 and 5) enjoyed climbing steep steps at Angkor Wat, Bayon temple and other libraries and the overgrown trees at Ta Phrom.
